In 2007, Vitra celebrated the 100th anniversary of Charles Eames. released a limited edition Plywood Elephant to celebrate his birthday. The response was so great that the design soon went into mass production.<\/p>\n
In 1950, Charles and Ray Eames were the first designers to use plastic, a material still unknown to the furniture industry at the time, to cheaply produce seat covers for their designs. Like today’s plastic seat covers of the Eames Plastic Chairs, the Eames Elephant is made of robust polypropylene.<\/p>\n
