PH80 Floor Lamp
Poul Henningsen designed the tricolor system in 1925-26. Together with Louis Poulsen, Henningsen designed the first lamps to use the system at an exhibition in Paris. This partnership continued until Henningsen’s death in 1967. Throughout his life, Henningsen sought to create direct, glare-free light that illuminated where it was needed most, and to create soft shadows using incandescent bulbs as a light source. Henningsen didn’t just design a light; he designed a complete system, of which about a thousand different models have been produced over the years. After Henningsen’s death in 1974, Light was born on the 80th anniversary of his birth. was created to celebrate its anniversary, hence the name PH 80. Designed in 1974, the original PH 80 features a characteristic red top reflector that provides warm and atmospheric lighting.

The luminaire emits a diffused, reflected, symmetrical light. The majority of light is directed downwards. Opal acrylic shades provide comfortable room lighting. In the original luminaire, the red hue of the upper reflector gives the light an intense, warm glow. The black and white luminaires have a white top reflector that reflects light for a clean and elegant look. The choice of light source will determine the color of the lighting. based on the logarithmic spiral, he achieved an even distribution of light over the entire arc of the shadow. This even distribution of light, combined with the reflection from the glass, made it possible to control glare and shadows. Each shadow reduces the amount of light equally because of its distance from the light source. The PH 80 is based on the same tricolor design. The model number of the lamp, PH80, does not refer to the diameter of the upper shade, which is the system usually applied in tri-color models.
