‘Why don’t we make an updated version of the old English club chair?’ With this comment, Charles Eames initiated the development of the Lounge Chair, a process that took several years.
The aim was to satisfy the desire for a highly proportioned chair that combines the highest level of comfort with the highest quality materials and workmanship. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, the chair sets new standards: Not only is it lighter, more elegant and more modern than the traditionally heavy club chair, it is also more comfortable.
Dimensions (cm): Height: 84 x Depth: 85 – 91 x Width: 84
Seat height: 38 cm
Thanks to these qualities, the Chaise Lounge has become one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most famous designs and has achieved the status of a classic in the history of modern furniture.
The American design duo Charles and Ray Eames are hailed among the world’s most famous and innovative designers. As pioneers of contemporary furniture design, they were responsible for numerous iconic pieces, including the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. The husband and wife team has been involved in numerous architectural projects such as the Eames House and Entenza House in California. Starting in 1957, Eames designs were produced by the Swiss furniture company Vitra, headquartered in Birsfelden.
The Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman is a modern interpretation of a classic club chair. Designed to resemble a well-worn baseball glove, the chair combines superior quality and comfort with exceptional aesthetics. Both the chair and the Ottoman are hand-assembled with a shell made of 7-ply wood veneer. The sturdy base is made of aluminum, while the seat and backrest are covered in soft leather. The chaise lounge and pouf have felt sliders to protect hardwood floors and make a welcome addition to any living room or study.
