Created by Fritz Hansen and designed in 1958 for the lounge of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg Single Armchair is one of Arne Jacobosen’s most successful products and today represents a true sculptural work with its enveloping form.
The seat’s shell structure is made of polyurethane foam and is complemented by a wide range of fabric and leather upholstery. It is also available with convenient footrest and on other surfaces.
Egg Single Armchair was designed for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, Denmark’s first skyscraper, which opened in Copenhagen. The entire hotel was entrusted to Arne Jacobsen, a Danish architect and designer whose designs have influenced the world today. Jacobsen’s aim was to design not only a modern piece of furniture, but also an art object that would fit the international lifestyle. Egg Chair, produced for this purpose, immediately adapted to the lobby of SAS Royal Hotel, which stands out with its design. Arne Jacobsen didn’t give the name ‘egg’ just to look cute. In fact, everyone who sat in it embraced it from the very first minute, as it enveloped the sitter and made them feel as if they were in an egg.
