1957 XI of the Third Annual Exhibition of Milan. On the occasion of his reign, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni presented their first prototype for Mezzadro.
The designers used a spring-loaded tractor seat for the flexible metal seat and secured it with a wing nut to connect it with the spring steel strip used in tractors to absorb the shock of uneven ground, and named it “Mezzadro”.
They increased the stability of the cantilever structure with a wooden cross support, which resembled the rungs of a wooden staircase. The stool was unveiled in its current form in the same year in the interior of the Villa Olmo in Como, in the exhibition “Colori e forme nella casa d’oggi”.
Launched in 1970 by Zanotta, Mezzadro Stool is also in the Vitra Design Museum collection.
