These 100 iconic chairs, which are in MoMa’s permanent collection and exhibited in many museums, were exhibited at Surp Krikor Lusaroviç Armenian Catholic Church for 2 weeks in parallel with the 2018 Istanbul Design Biennial, and the cultural traces of changing life through the chairs were brought together by Mozaik in the book “Please Have a Seat”.
The exhibition “Please, have a seat!”, featuring 100 chairs that are works of art, took place at the Ortaköy Surp Krikor Lusaroviç Armenian Catholic Church between September 25 and October 9, 2018.
The history of the chair goes back thousands of years. Although its design takes many different forms, the basic function of a chair is the same: A chair is an object specially prepared for a person to sit on. From the late 19th century onwards, technological innovations led designers to new materials and production methods.
The development of technology and the diversification of materials have diversified and transformed the way chairs are designed and produced.
