At the beginning of the 70s, within a strategy of typological diversification of the products in its catalog, Zanotta begins to produce furniture accessories. Sciangai is the first important furniture accessory proposed by Zanotta.
“Objects should relate to the user and be easy to use,” Paolo Lomazzi explains in an interview with RAI television. “Everyday objects, household items and objects we are connected to.” Sciangai was inspired by the Chinese game where wooden sticks are held in the hand and then dropped on a table. The opening/closing mechanism is realized with a steel ring. Surprising in its simplicity, this game won the Compasso d’Oro Prize in 1979.
