The VL38 wall lamp is based on the original design of the VL38 table lamp. The VL38 table lamp was originally designed in the late 1930s by Vilhelm Lauritzen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the construction of the Radiohuset building (Danish broadcasting house) in Copenhagen (now the Royal Danish Academy of Music). The white/brass VL38 was relaunched in the fall of 2016. To adapt to contemporary light technology and developments in energy efficiency, the luminaires are equipped with LED. Introduced in fall 2017, the black version of the VL38 has a stronger outline than the original white version, but retains the beloved retro look and the soft, curved expression of the original design.
