Arne Jacobsen designed this luminaire, among many other features, for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. The wall lamp gives a pleasant downward light through the white painted inner lampshade. The shade can also be tilted to adjust the light distribution. The AJ family of lamps is recognized as the design for which Jacobsen is most famous worldwide. The AJ collection is part of the overall design concept Jacobsen created for the hotel. He designed almost everything himself. The parallels between straight lines, the combination of straight and curved angles in the AJ lamp design can also be seen in the geometric lines of his buildings.
