Charles and Ray Eames developed this model in connection with the “Low Cost Furniture” competition organized by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and organized for the Herman Miller company.
As with their plastic chairs, the seats and backs are modeled after the human body. But in DKR, even though a hard and cold material like steel wire is used, the result is a relaxed organic form. By producing it on an industrial scale, it was possible to successfully sell the chair at a relatively low price. In 1952, the design won the Trail Blazer Award given by the Home Fashions League in the United States.
