Pebble Rubble by Swedish design duo Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren of Front Design is a sensory experience.

Imagine that we find ourselves standing on a huge, mysterious slab of stone. As if, at some time long before our own, someone with superhuman strength had lifted and positioned it and created a megalithic seat. Let’s imagine all this happening in an unexpected place – at the entrance of a bank, in the hall of a hotel, or in the corridors of a library. Finally, let us imagine approaching its surface and only then realizing its softness.

Designed by Swedish design duo Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren of Front Design for Moroso, Pebble Rubble is a sensory experience. An illusion that captivates and mesmerizes us, changing our perception of time. The slow and boundless rhythm of nature next to our crazy daily routine.

Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren quote: “Our new furniture system for Moroso is shaped by the shapes in nature. As children in our native Sweden, our playground was the forest and we imagined rocks, moss and fallen trees as furniture and places for the body to rest and settle. For this seating, we 3D scanned the rocks we saw on our many walks in the forest and put these organic shapes together to create pieces of furniture.” The Pebble Rubble design conveys a message that transcends the functions and qualities of an ordinary armchair. The most prominent feature is that the upholstered volumes resemble huge boulders, polished by tireless rain and wind and covered with a layer of organic or plant matter that can soften their roughness and make the surfaces comfortable and inviting. A scenic installation that not only simulates, but is based on a long research where the designers explored the therapeutic benefits of nature on people’s physical and mental health and the cultural and psychological significance of natural environments, especially those found in the designers’ native Sweden. Although designed mainly for use in the Corporate and Hospitality sectors, Pebble Rubble consists of 15 modules (seats and backrests) and 3 (foot) stools that allow for a free, flexible and creative compositional process. From a single seat to the creation of a sophisticated panorama, there are endless possibilities of arrangement and the whole will contribute to make any interior project magical and unique.
