Poul Henningsen designed the tricolor system in 1925-1926. The first lights using the system were designed by PH in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris. This partnership continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH used incandescent light bulbs as a light source, aiming to create glare-free light, directing light where it was needed most and creating soft shadows.
