Rebis Coffee Table
The union of opposites.
A table that combines different materials (wood and industrial glass sheets) and contrasting processing techniques according to the principles of the alchemy of the clash of opposites. The wooden base is made mechanically, but the smooth and ethereal finish comes from the hand of the artisan who smooths the wood surface, giving each piece a silky feel. Similarly, the table top is composed of three or more overlapping sheets of colored glass with pigments inside. The irregular shape is designed by the architect’s hand, then after each sheet is cut, it is placed in a staggered manner to create small “terraces”.
As in alchemical practices, the result is a “double” but still organic object – a collection of tables that seems at once natural and artificial, industrial and handmade, unique and mass-produced.
