The VL38 Floor Lamp is based on the original design of the VL38 table lamp. The VL38 table lamp was originally designed in the late 1930s by Vilhelm Lauritzen in partnership with Louis Poulsen for the construction of the Radiohuset building (Danish broadcasting house) in Copenhagen (today the Royal Danish Academy of Music). Vilhelm Lauritzen’s lamp design, VL38, and the pendant VL45, both designed for Radiohuset, began to appear in Louis Poulsen catalogs in the mid-1940s after World War II. The VL38 in white/brass was relaunched in the fall of 2016. To adapt to contemporary light technology and developments in energy efficiency, the luminaires are equipped with LED. Introduced in fall 2017, the black version of the VL38 has a stronger outline than the original white version, but retains the beloved retro look and the soft, curved expression of the original design.
The luminaire emits light directed downwards. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to provide a soft and comfortable light.
