Arne Jacobsen
First trained as a bricklayer, Arne Jacobsen graduated from technical school in Copenhagen in 1924 and then went on to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. It was here that Jacobsen learned from leading designers such as Kaare Klint and Kay Fisker, who had a profound influence on his work. The incredibly prolific architect and designer also found time to teach. Between 1956 and 1965, Jacobsen was a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and received honorary doctorates from Oxford University and Strathclyde University. The famous architect received the RIBA Bronze Medal in 1963 and the Medaille d’Or from the Académie d’Architecture in France in 1971.
