In response to an invitation from history-maker Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, India Mahdavi designed the Loop chair, which has the charm of a hand drawing and draws on ancestral know-how: “Gebrüder Thonet Vienna is the only factory in the world where you can translate a freehand drawing by giving it a wooden material of that quality.”
But in this exercise, India did not lift its pen; it stuck to the movement. The common thread of the loop materializes the frame in space and winds around itself before following its path, leaving two loops twisted in its wake. Her seductive curls push the limits of possibilities; India asks her to redouble her efforts to double the beauty and roundness of the wood.
The loop makes a full circle.
