The Woven Cosmos exhibition presents new work by artist and industrial designer Hella Jongerius, including a user-activated installation that will be developed throughout the show.
The exhibition in the Gropius Bau exhibition hall is based on Jongerius’ philosophy that encompasses design, sustainability and spirituality.
Taking cues from the history of Gropius Bau, once a museum and school of decorative arts, Jongerius worked with design studio Jongeriuslab to produce on-site works in the months leading up to the exhibition.
The exhibition features three live elements realized by the designer and his team Jongeriuslab, in which the public is invited to participate. The Cosmic Loom installation includes packets of recycled textile waste that the team and visitors can use to add to the loom. The public is invited to be part of a choreographed workflow for another project entitled ” Dancing a Yarn”, in which twisting and twisting dancers perform alongside a machine, imitating its movements to form two ropes.
Hella Jongerius Woven Cosmos at Gropius Bau will take place from April 29 to September 5, 2021 at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Niederkirchnerstraße 7, 10963 Berlin, Germany.
