In 1925, while working as an apprentice at the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer reduced tables and chairs to their basic outlines and changed the future of furniture design forever.
He was inspired to work with tubular steel after hearing that the material “bends like pasta” to make bicycle frames. “I was very preoccupied with the transparency of form,” said Breuer, who realized the potential of this lightweight, robust and malleable material and knew he could create the furniture he dreamed of.
