In 1949, Charles and Ray Eames designed a coffee table as a unique piece of furniture for their own residence, the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades near Los Angeles. Since then, the table has contributed to the unique decor of the interior of this historic house.
The rectangular table top, which gives the impression of simplicity and luxury at the same time, was originally covered in gold leaf. The “doweled foot base” is a variant of the wooden base found on Eames Plastic Chairs. No less luxurious, the coffee table now comes in different versions with a wooden base and table tops.
The reprint of the Eames Coffee Table, developed by Vitra in collaboration with the Eames Office, evokes the spirit of the first one-off pieces: Made of exquisite materials, this high-quality coffee table is both a precious object and, for this reason, it harmonizes not only with the Plastic Side Chairs but also with many other pieces of furniture.
Marble, Wood or Veneer
The rectangular table tops are made of palisander veneer, marble or solid American walnut. Combining black wooden legs with metal cross supports, the base provides a solid base and emphasizes the understated elegance of the Eames Coffee Table.
