PH Septima is considered one of Poul Henningsen’s most elegant designs. When it was first exhibited as a prototype at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art (now Designmuseum Danmark) in 1928, the poetic work received public applause. The seven colors of the glass top are made of delicate but very strong Italian borosilicate glass. It is decorated with transparent and frosted sections that add a contemporary aesthetic touch while creating a warm and harmonious environment.
The seven-colored glass crown emits a dazzling, downward-directed light and at the same time a pleasant, delicate glow. From shade to shade, frosted glass areas alternately cover the transparent ones, thus diffusing the light even more softly.
In the 40s, due to a shortage of raw materials, the PH Septima was discontinued along with many other lamps of the time. In 2020, Louis Poulsen brought back Poul Henningsen’s sophisticated seven-color glass top, based on the PH Septima 5, with optimized, improved glass for better durability and stability.
