1959 SK207 Table
The transgression of boundaries between disciplines, materials and production techniques is a hallmark of Angelo Mangiarotti’s work. It would be difficult to find a better example of this approach than the SK207 table from 1959, the master’s first foray into metalworking.
While Mangiarotti works with witty intelligence on prefabricated concrete elements that can be produced on an industrial scale for architecture, he chooses the ancient technique of “lost wax” casting to create his first bronze table. This particular technique, mainly used in sculpture, makes each sample unique as the mold must be destroyed to remove the cast product. The process, geometry, weight and durability allow the conical base of SK207 to support large marble tops for a sophisticated combination of materials and finishes, despite the reduced support surface.
