Antony’s striking metal support frame bears a structural resemblance to the Compas Direction table: a transverse tubular support secures the legs, while two sheet metal brackets support the elegantly curved plywood seat shell. The seat shell of the special limited edition model is made of European pine, known for its distinctive grain. A protective lacquer surface treatment emphasizes the unique pattern. The metal structure is powder-coated in Rouge Corsaire, the original Prouvé color.
Antony is one of Jean Prouvé’s latest furniture designs and the first chair to be included in the Vitra Design Museum Collection. It therefore occupies a unique position in this collection, which today comprises more than 7000 furniture designs. This vintage model was purchased by Vitra’s Honorary President, Rolf Fehlbaum, during a visit to Paris in 1984, further fueling his interest in Prouvé’s work. In the following years, a trusted relationship and collaboration with Jean Prouvé’s family was established and Vitra has been producing a selection of Jean Prouvé’s furniture designs since 2000. Highlights from the Vitra Design Museum’s growing collection of historic Prouvé furniture are featured in the museum’s 2006 exhibition ‘Jean Prouvé: The Poetics of the Technical Object’ exhibition in 2006.
Antony’s limited edition will be on sale until the end of December 2025 and comes with a consecutively numbered label.
