Toro Armchair

Designed for the Monticello country club on the outskirts of Milan, the Toro sofa and armchair are awe-inspiring from every angle, confidently taking center stage in the space.

So why “Toro”, or bull in Italian? Because you can literally “take these armchairs by the horns”. The metal frame elegantly emerges from the upholstery and ends in handles on the arms, so you can easily move and rotate the furniture. Guests at the country club in Milan would rearrange these armchairs according to their needs, moving them closer together for conversation, further away when they wanted quiet. But these bulls are docile and easily manipulated.

In fact, they recall Sitting Bull, the legendary Sioux leader often seen in Italian comics and movies in the 1960s, when they were designed. Or perhaps Caccia Dominioni was thinking of the zodiac sign Taurus. Because the relaxed, soft yet determined nature of these designs makes this interpretation just as likely.
