Tortello Sofa

The Tortello sofa, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby for B&B Italia, was awarded the 2024 EDIDA (Elle Decoration International Design Awards) in the “Seating” category.

Tortello is a monolithic sofa with generous, soft and inviting lines. As its name suggests, its design is very impressive. Tortello has an original structure composed of unexpected elements.

The supporting structure is in the form of a trapezoidal base tray produced by rotational molding from recycled polyethylene. An elastomer mattress is placed on top of it, on which a soft fabric-covered volume is added, shaped with a special stitching technique. This unique stitching detail gives the sofa a characteristic profile.

Tortello embraces responsible production through the use of advanced technology and innovative materials. The principles of circularity and recycling are at the heart of the collection. The recycled polyethylene body has been infused with polyurethane foam and thermoplastic elastomer elements that define its geometry and comfort. Although the amount of polyurethane used is kept to a minimum, a high level of softness is achieved thanks to special structural solutions.

The material and manufacturing techniques allow the structural components to be assembled without the use of adhesives or glues. This means that Tortello can be completely disassembled and easily recycled.

The EDIDA awards, voted by 25 international editions of the Elle Decoration network, honor global excellence in the world of interior design and recognize the best projects and designers in different categories.
