Like the pure and natural characteristics of the wines produced at Valke Vleug, the architecture of the winery, designed by Vincent Van Duysen, remains true to its local terroir.
Always striving to reduce his work to its true essence, Van Duysen approached the old asparagus farm with a modern reinterpretation of the archetypal Flemish farmhouse. Reflecting the linear planting of the vineyards and the view of the municipality of Puurs, Van Duysen’s signature geometries of simple and sparse forms shape the low building that houses the tasting room and production facilities. A black vertical volume, a residence for the winemaker and his family, breaks the strong horizontal lines of the winery.
The seductive play of light, volume and texture that together create the intuitive flow for which Van Duysen’s work is known is based on a deep respect for tradition, medium and context. As the saying goes: To know your future, you must know your past.
