Mezzadro Stool
Stool Chrome plated steel handle. Lacquered seat in orange, red, yellow, white or black. Steam-treated beech wood footrest, natural color.
How wonderful the years between the 1950s and 1960s were, when there was a desire for change, to rebuild this little ancient world. How wonderful it was for those two close-knit brothers who were curious and intuitive, who had the intuition and courage of a thoroughbred entrepreneur, someone who wanted to make that world his own.
In 1970, for the exhibition “Shapes and colors in today’s houses” at the Villa Olmo in Como, Zanotta metaphorically reproduced the “spring metal armchair” called “Mezzadro”, designed by the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1957 (together with the Sella armchair, in production since 1983).
Mezzadro is a loud and clear message of freedom to define the domestic spatial environment.
“With the title of this unusual homage, the object evokes Neo Vanguardism, from the provocative nature of Arte Povera to the irony of Pop Art. Like a work by Duchamp, the juxtaposition of craft-based and industrial components coexists: the farming world in the sheet metal seat and steel spring, the bicycle world in the fixing pin and the nautical world in the beechwood cross-piece.”
