Belgian architect Hans Verstuyft approaches each project with an open mind and an experimental approach. His work aims to provide a new way of living rather than a simple and rational solution to a spatial problem. As a ‘spatial artist’, as his clients sometimes call him, Verstuyft uses his signature palette of natural materials to infuse his soft and minimalist spaces with warmth, comfort and a personal touch.
Located in Verstuyft’s own home and office, a 1966 office building in the center of Antwerp, the desire to experiment resulted in a duplex penthouse that is far from institutional. The flood of natural light, which Verstuyft acknowledges is a key element of his signature style, was achieved by adding an open-air courtyard surrounded by full-height bronze anodized aluminum windows on both floors. In the center, a 35-year-old tall Persian iron tree adds an organic feel to the space.
With lime-washed walls, sandstone shelves, walnut wood furniture and brass details, the loft serves as the perfect backdrop for Domani’s pots and planters. The space reflects our passion for natural materials that age gracefully.
