Choosing to work within parameters, Doshi Levien experimented with a self-imposed grid by collecting, matching and playing with colorful hand-painted samples. Following the designers’ original grid, the artisans weave some or all notes (colors) in ascending and descending scales, “it’s not just random patterns, there is math and experimentation behind it,” says Nipa Doshi.
