Together with the armrest version S 64, the S 32 is one of the most famous tubular steel classics. Their impressive blend of new and old is what makes these chairs so popular: Thonet’s long tradition in the production of bentwood furniture with characteristic Viennese wicker meets the revolutionary use of tubular steel.
The seat and backrest in bent solid wood with a wicker finish refer to the past, while the steel frame represents the present and the future. Thanks to their versatility, they were and still are one of the best-selling console chair classics. Marcel Breuer designed the S 32 and S 64 models in Berlin in 1928. Thonet has been producing both models since 1930. Thanks to their aesthetically simple, clean lines and airy wicker construction, these classics fit into a wide variety of spaces, from meeting rooms and waiting rooms to restaurants and living spaces.
