Blending over a century of Murano glassmaking tradition with the distinctive language of modern design, the Venini collection is now showcased at Mozaik.
Founded in 1921 by Paolo Venini and Venetian antiquarian Giacomo Cappellin, Venini has become a symbol of Italian glass art. Based in the heart of Murano Island, synonymous with glassmaking itself, the brand quickly established a reputation both in Italy and across the international design world.
From Craftsmanship to Cultural Reference
In the 1930s, collaborations with architect Carlo Scarpa marked the beginning of a creative journey that would transform Venini into more than just a manufacturer. Over the decades, the brand became a cultural reference point, bridging art, design, and craftsmanship.
Through collaborations with Italian design masters such as Gio Ponti, Gae Aulenti, Cini Boeri, Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, and Alessandro Mendini, Venini created iconic works that continue to resonate. Today, the brand works with contemporary designers including Atelier Oi, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, and Fernando & Humberto Campana, further expanding its creative legacy.
Producing everything from functional glass objects to iconic lighting and limited-edition art pieces, Venini’s Art Glass and Art Light collections span decorative objects to large-scale architectural lighting. With access to 125 exclusive Murano glass colors, Venini offers designers unparalleled freedom of expression: Its glass furnace being the only facility in the world capable of producing this spectrum.
Where Design Meets Fashion
Venini’s story goes beyond art and design- it is also deeply connected to high fashion. Now part of the prestigious Damiani Group, Venini has recently collaborated with Gucci to reimagine Tobia Scarpa’s 1960s ‘Opachi’ vase seriesin Gucci’s signature Rosso Ancora red.
Another highlight is Totem Luce, a collaboration with renowned architect and designer Peter Marino, often referred to as the architect of contemporary luxury. Known for creating flagship stores for Chanel, Dior, Bulgari, and Louis Vuitton, Marino brought a sculptural approach to light in partnership with Venini, resulting in one of the brand’s most striking recent works.
Totem Luce: When Light Becomes Sculpture
Totem Luce treats light not just as a source of illumination, but as an architectural element and narrative form. Peter Marino merges art, fashion, architecture, and design, transforming Murano glass into a sculptural column of light.
Inspired by the sacred symbols of ancient cultures, Totem Luce rises with a multilayered formal language. Stacked glass cylinders create a rhythmic vertical composition, a luminous column where transparency, reflection, and Marino’s dramatic contrasts redefine the expressive power of glass.
Each module is shaped by master artisans, with colors achieved through unique blends in Venini’s glass furnaces. This meeting of Marino’s sculptural vision with Venini’s century-old craftsmanship results in a design that is at once timeless and contemporary.
Venini: A Manifesto of Art, Design, and Light
Today, Venini’s creations are part of the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA in New York, the Fondation Cartier in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, among many others.
By uniting Murano’s glassmaking tradition with contemporary design, Venini continues to redefine the boundaries of glass art; from decorative objects to large-scale architectural lighting. Now presented at Mozaik, the Venini collection offers a new way to experience the timeless elegance of Murano glass in modern living.
