On the Mozaik 30. anniversary, Cassina Art Director Patricia Urquiola to talk about her inspirations, creative process, values and perspective on design. At the event, organized in partnership with Cassina and Mozaik, Urquiola discussed the projects and products designed for the company, and reflected on the design heritage behind Cassina and its innovative direction. He told us about the “Cassina Perspective”, where innovative products come together with classic icons to create warm and inviting environments that dialog with a unique design. Born in 1961 in Oviedo, Spain, Patricia Urquiola studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Milan. Between 1990 and 1992, he worked as an assistant lecturer for Achille Castiglioni and Eugenio Bettinelli in Milan and Paris.

In 2001, Patricia Urquiola opened her own design studio and works in different fields, from product design to installation and architecture. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona, the W Retreat & Spa in Puerto Rico, a villa in Udine, the skenography of the opera “l’incoronazione di Poppea” in Monteverdi, installations and showrooms for Hermès, Gianvito Rossi, Flos, Moroso, H&M are some of the architect and designer’s projects.

Hailed as Europe’s best designer by the New York Times, Patricia Urquiola began to garner praise and acclaim from the global design and architecture scene after establishing her own studio in 2001. The innovative positioning and originality of Patricia Urquiola’s unique design style is so inspiring that it is one of the first names that comes to mind when thinking about contemporary design.

On Thursday, November 24th, as part of the “Mozaik 30th Anniversary” events held at Istanbul Mozaik, Patricia Urquiola shared her design approach in a conversation with academics, students, architects and participants interested in the world of design. Turkey’s famous architects, art lovers and prominent names from the world of design attended the cocktail event organized after the talk. DJ Ömür and Su Sonia accompanied the night with a great performance with her live vocals.

Patricia’s work is exhibited in many art and design museums around the world, including MoMa in New York, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the Triennale Museum in Milan, the Design Museum in Monaco, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Vitra and many others. Also; Design Museum in Basel, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Design Museum in Zurich, Stedelijk Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Amsterdam, Barcelona Design Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art.

She was also awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in the Arts and the Catholic Order of Isabella by the Spanish Government. She has been named Designer of the Year by Wallpaper, Elle Decor International, AD España and Architecktur und Wohnen, among other magazines.

Patricia Urquiola has been Cassina’s Artistic Director since September 2015.
